The Middle East is an area where vehicle is king and fuel is low-cost, frequently leaving little incentive to discover more environmentally-friendly ways of moving around.

But this year, as protests throughout the Middle East have pushed up the price of oil, the concern of discovering alternative sources of fuel has entered sharp focus.

In an area that has among the highest carbon footprints worldwide, one service is taking benefit of the growing pressure to discover alternatives to oil. It’s set up the Middle East’s first scheme to recycle cooking oil into biodiesel. It’s proving lucrative too, already their client-list consists of McDonald’s.
